REACTION TIME DISTRIBUTIONS IN CHEMICAL KINETICS:
OSCILLATIONS AND OTHER WEIRD BEHAVIORS

Chemical reactions usually proceed through intermediate compounds, and those compounds tend to have a finite "characteristic life time". Depending on how the intermediate compounds decay, that is, depending on the probability distribution of the characteristic time under which the intermediate compounds decay, the kinetics of a chemical reaction will be one or another. We explore the effects on the kinetics of several of such time distributions, and conclude that, depending on the distribution, the kinetics of a reaction can present unexpected oscillations and other weird behaviors.
